Local Area

The Ritz-Carlton Tenerife, Abama is a 160 hectare ‘finca’ (private estate) tucked away in Guía de Isora, a tranquil and little known area of the island of Tenerife.

Abama features volcanic landscapes, exuberant vegetation with over 300 varieties of plants, trees and palm trees, with breathtaking panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean and the Island of La Gomera.

M.B.Restaurant M.B is the signature restaurant at Abama Resort of the renowned Basque chef Martín Berasategui. Martín’s all-consuming passion for cooking began early in his life: he learned his trade at the age of 14 while helping out at the San Sebastian fish restaurant owned by his mother. Ten years later Martín’s own restaurant in Lasarte had earned its first Michelin star, and by 2001 he had brought that number to three - the highest accolade for any chef, and a tally he has maintained to this day. Today, Martín’s inspired interpretations of Mediterranean cuisine have made him a household name throughout Spain and the rest of the world. His cooking is characterized not just by its creativity and inventiveness but also by a profound understanding of flavour and a deep respect for ingredients: qualities that can be found in abundance at M.B. The restaurant headed in Tenerife by chef Paolo Casagrande recently awarded its first Michelin star (2009).

Kabuki Abama Kabuki, the Canary Island outpost of the Madrid-born Japanese fusion concept has been awarded its first Michelin star in 2012 based on the quality, mastery of technique, personality and consistency of its food.

Under the direction of 28 year old Executive Chef Daniel Franco this prestigious win positions Abama Golf & Spa Resort as the only hotel in Spain with two Michelin star-rated restaurants. This new accolade further strengthens Abama’s reputation for gastronomic excellence growing its Michelin stable, which includes seven Michelin starred Martin Berasategui’s M.B. restaurant.

Dishes at Abama Kabuki combine the elegance and technical style of Japanese cooking with traditional Canarian produce and dishes. This is evident in Franco’s Usuzukuri of Cherne fish where Usuzukuri cuts of local fish are served layered over the black potatoes of the Canary Islands together with the region’s signature ‘Mojo’ sauce.

Franco is also dedicated to the Slow Food and ecological movements ensuring that all produce (where possible) is sourced locally, supporting local farms and businesses, keeping food sustainable and organic, grown without the use of harmful synthetics and chemicals.

The Kabuki concept was launched by chef Ricardo Sanz in 2000 with Kabuki Restaurant in Madrid. The concept was a result of the chef’s creative culinary development of tapas combined with his training by Japanese culinary master Masao Kikuchi of the legendary Tokyo Taro Restaurant. Ricardo Sanz opened a second Kabuki outpost – Abama Kabuki – in 2006 followed by a third back in Madrid in 2007 – Kabuki Wellington. All Kabuki restaurants now hold Michelin stars.

Abama Golf Course

The Abama Championship Golf Course rises and dips between 22 lakes and more than 25,000 trees. Along the way are waterfalls, palms and bunkers of marble sand, while the Atlantic Ocean offers a beautiful backdrop. The lowest point of the course is 78 metres above sea-level and its highest, 315 metres. Facilities include practice ground and green, putting greens, clubhouse with pro shop, restaurant and bar and buggies with GPS. There is a golf academy where guests can receive private lessons.

Costa Adeje

Costa Adeje hosted the European Tours Tenerife Open in 2003. The course has typical local features of black volcanic sand and is noted for the excellent condition of its fairways and greens. Wonderfully located, overlooking the south coast, and Mount Teide to the north.
